Luisenpark in Mannheim – Chinese Tea Garden and daffodiles

    May 8, 2018 /

After my visit in Chinese Garden in Frankfurt last spring I was very inspired by the combination of the oriental architecture and subtlety of early spring nature. This year I was looking for similar places close to Rhine-Main area I found that Mannheim has the Chinese Tea Garden, so I was really excited to see it. On a map it looks like it is just a part of a huge park. It is true, however it is not a regular city park opened to everyone, but a whole entertainment complex – Luisenpark. You need a ticket to enter and it is a bit pricy, but definitely worth the money. The very…

Tropical Butterfly Garden – paradise in Sayn

    April 25, 2018 /

How do you imagine the paradise looks like? If it is green, warm, full of creatures, with birds singing and colourful butterflies flying around you, I think I found one! Butterfly Garden in Sayn is all of it or even more.     Long winter which we experienced this year was quite depressing, so I was looking for any place, where the plants are green and it is warm, but not too far. And I found one – Butterfly Garden, much closer than expected, even within the same country. Sayn is located 10-15 km from Koblenz (Germany). It lies close to the Rhine river, but not directly. Butterfly Garden is…

    3 hours in Bonn

    April 10, 2018 /

I went to Bonn to see the famous cherry blossoms, but I was one week too late, and I missed it. However, I still had around 3 hours to explore the city and I tried to make most out of it. Normally, if you visit a new place it is good to “get lost” and just wander around. But since I had so little time, I couldn’t afford loosing any minute. So as always I recommend starting at tourist information, get some maps and a guide to know where to start. On my way to the Tourist Information I found an antique market with a lot of furniture, old albums,…

5 beautiful rose gardens in Germany you will fall in love with

    March 9, 2018 /

I am writing it on a cold snowy March day. Spring is not coming any time soon and only colourful photos remind me of warm afternoons spent in parks and rose gardens. Personally, I like when the park has some little garden with flowers and herbs and some bench to have a sit and just relax. Since roses are the queens of the flower kingdom, they always have a special place in any garden, especially the royal ones close to palaces. Today I present my favorite beautiful rose gardens I visited in Germany. Each one has a unique style and atmosphere, but all of them somehow amazed me. Maybe they…

Why you should visit Bingen on the Rhine this summer

    February 21, 2018 /

Are you planning your summer holidays already? Here is why you should spend it in the Rhine Valley and come to Bingen am Rhein. Bingen is located directly at the Rhine river. It is one of the stops between Mainz and Koblenz if you travel with Mittelrhein Bahn. There are two train stations in the city: Bingen City and Bingen Main Station (Hauptbahnhof). They are in a walking distance from each other, so just take any of them. No matter if you have just one day or whole week, for sure you will enjoy your time in Bingen.  Here you can find my recommendations and favourite sights in this little…

    A postcard from Porto

    February 4, 2018 /

This is my little “postcard” from Porto, which I want to send to you. It contains the best memories from two afternoons that I spent in this city. Last year I had a chance to go to Portugal. It was my very first time there. So, as you can imagine, I had so many expectations. I checked plenty of guides and descriptions from blogers. Everyone was so much in love with this city. All those photos showing colourful houses by the river and beautiful sunsets set the bar quite high. Here I show just snapshots of what impressed or inspired me the most. These are the things I want to remember…

HOW TO survive 18 hours on a bus

    January 21, 2018 /

Whenever I visit my family, which lives around 1000 km away, I take a bus. Very often I am asked: how long does it take? why don’t you fly? For me it is way cheaper and I can take a bigger luggage. I also don’t have problems to sleep in a bus, so it is not the worst. In this post I would like to give some tips on how to prepare for such journey to make it pleasant and comfortable. Journey starts long before you even enter the bus. That’s why I would like to start with all the essentials you need to take care of to survive it!…

My places – 2017 – travel destinations of the year

    December 31, 2017 /

Year 2017 is comming to the end and it is high time for some kind of summary. This year was full of unexpected events and trips. I visited a lot of places, which were on my “to see” list, but I also discovered many more, which I haven’t heard about before. Some of the descriptions were published on the blog, and those ones are linked to the specific post. Others are still on the waiting list, but for sure one day I prepare them too. Here is my little summary of my travel destinations of 2017: Warsaw – winter lights During Christmas time the city is beautifully illuminated with tons…

On the German Timber-frame Road #2 – Idstein

    November 23, 2017 /

The German Timber-frame Road is a paradise for painters, urban sketchers, lovers of architecture and history. In this post I want to take you for a colourful journey, which should inspire and boost your creativity. I discovered the German Timber-frame Road early this year and after visiting Hoechst I had to see more towns like that. My second part of the journey was along the train connection between Frankfurt and Limburg. My first stop was Idstein. This little town is truly charming. Everything looks like from a fairy tale: streets, houses, castle, church and restaurants – everything very colourful, with variety of patterns and forms. Visiting the cities along the…

    Wiesbaden shopping guide

    November 2, 2017 /

One way to improve your travelling experience is to do something locals do – for example grocery shopping. This guide will take you for a little shopping adventure following my favourite spots in the city of Wiesbaden. One thing to remember is that in Germany shops are closed on Sundays, apart from the ones at train stations or restaurants and some souvenir stores. That is why Saturdays are crazy. Keep that in mind, because some places might be very crowded on that day. If you are not from Wiesbaden, probably you would arrive to the main station – Hauptbahnhof. It is about 15 minutes’ walk to the city centre, but…
