Yellow Berlin: A One Colour Photography Walk

After long months of very grey and sad winter season, in spring, Berlin becomes colourful again. Cherry blossoms, tulip carpets, young green leaves, street festivals, picnics in the park and more people strolling through the city. My new camera was quietly waiting for an adventure and now it is perfect time to take it for a proper photo walk.

I am always in for creative photography challenge ideas. They let me explore new locations, events and new approaches to photography.

Recently, all over my Instagram, photographers were taking on a colour photo challenge. The concept is simple, you pick one colour and you shoot only objects in this colour. You can do it an easy way, and have them as main subject of your photo or more extreme, where entire photo needs to be in that one colour. This idea is not any new and you may think not even so creative. But actually having some focus and clear goal as limitation can boost your creativity. I did colour photo challenges before, usually picking pink. This time I was given colour yellow. First thought – too easy, too obvious for Berlin. But surprisingly, it let me experiment and discover new styles and objects, that normally I wouldn’t even notice.

Usually, I focus just on flowers or architecture. This time, I could be a bit braver and try for example street photography as well. It all started as one day challenge, but I decided to continue it. Now I keep my eyes open for anything yellow.

If you are visiting Berlin just for a few days, and looking for travel photography inspiration, I do recommend this type of challenge. It is a great way to discover less obvious face of the city and experience real slow travel moment.

In the gallery below, I am showing you examples of yellow things to photograph in Berlin: hidden spots and famous street photography locations, parks and train stations. All yellow!
