On the German Timber-frame Road #1 – Hoechst

    May 17, 2017 / 0 Comments

Do you know where to find the oldest church in Frankfurt or its only ferry? These sounds like cool quiz questions, but actually they are just not so obvious attractions hidden in the suburbs in the place called Hoechst. City of Hoechst was integrated into Frankfurt in 1928. It takes just 10 minutes by train from Frankfurt Hbf to reach it. It is beautifully located on the banks of the Main. Therefore, it is popular among cyclists who make trips along the river. Hoechst is well known for its industrial park with company of the same name and the porcelain manufacture. My main impression is that it is a place…

From Frankfurt to China for free

    April 27, 2017 / 0 Comments

Frankfurt city has a special offer for its citizens and visitors. Anyone can travel to China for free. In the center of Frankfurt, close to the busy Zeil, there is a little oasis – Bethmannpark. It is full of flowers, trees and grass, which makes it popular place to relax on warm afternoons and weekends. Inside the park there is another one. And that is where the magic happens. You cross the gate with lions and you find yourself in the Chinese Garden or “Garden of Heavenly Peace”. It is described as very calm and peaceful place, but on weekends, full of tourists, it is not so quiet. It…

Spring flowers – first blossoms of the year

    February 27, 2017 / 0 Comments

Who was not waiting for spring to come? And now finally it is here! Full of colours and first blossoms. Spring flowers scents and sounds of birds singing bring new hope and joy after long cold months. This time Botanic Garden in Frankfurt offers exhibition of most common spring flowers: daffodils, hyacinths, irises and tulips. Swans still sleep covered by shy sun rays, but around in the grass there are already plenty of colourful crocuses and snowdrops. They don’t stay for a long time, so let’s enjoy this special time of the year.

    Winter garden – colourful beauties

    February 12, 2017 / 0 Comments

Normal, white winter can be so beautiful with snow and frosty motives everywhere, but not here in Mainz. Snow was present for only  1-2 weeks and the only remainder of winter is cold. This makes me already dream about spring with its blossoms and colours. Since I still may need to wait for it quite a long time, I decided to give it a chance and look for flowers already now. To my surprise it was not that difficult. There are plenty of plants, which look pretty even in the cold season. Others, although in some vegetative state, still look really interesting. Obviously the colours are not that intense. There…

Palmengarten – Botanical Garden in Frankfurt

    November 21, 2016 / 0 Comments

In the centre of Frankfurt metropolis there is a green island, where anyone can escape from hustle and bustle of a city. The botanic garden called Palmengarten has a beautiful collection of exotic plants. One day is definitely not enough to appreciate all the treasures they have. Just to mention some of the attractions offered, let’s start with Rose Garden with about 50 different types of those flowers. Then there is a Great Pond – with fish, swans and waterfall. In summer time it is possible to rent there a boat. A nice way to see the garden is to take the Palmen-Express, which operates from April-October and costs just 1-1,5…
