A bike tour to Caputh near Potsdam

Potsdam area is great for biking  tours. Today I recommend visiting another castle (much smaller than the ones in Potsdam) and not so well known  –  Castle Caputh. The place is less crowded and most of the tourists spend time in cafes and restaurants near the lake. The little city lies by the Schwielowsee and Templiner See. There are plenty of sailboats with a possibility of cruise for tourists. There is also a ferry, which allows people to move between two parts of a city. It is very cheap – 50 cents per person and takes people, bikes and cars.

Another interesting point on the map of Caputh is Einstein’s house. The city is very quiet and peaceful and so the location of this house. It is almost in the forest, hidden between trees. It used to have a beautiful view to the lake, but now the trees are too dense. Einstein was supposed to receive this house from citizens of Berlin for his 50th birthday. However, the situation got complicated and in the end he payed for it by himself. There was no telephone in this house, so if someone wanted to talk to Einstein had to call his neighbour. The scientist liked walking in the forest and sailing. He was also hosting a lot of guests, other scientists, politicians, e.g. Max Planck. It is possible to have a tour around the house, it costs around 5€.

To rich Caputh from Potsdam just follow the Templiner Str. along the Templiner See or  take a train to Caputh-Geltow.
